Indeed, for USA citizens elections are far more open and more democratic than in some European countries. You get to know your candidates very well, unlike us, who hear bags and bags of promises, but never see them coming true after those politicians get elected thanks to our votes.

At least you guys in the USA get to choose people who run as the candidate. You also get to see their metal in this drawn out process. Here in the UK our candidates are chosen for us and sometimes we do not even get the opportunity to vote for them - aka Gordon Brown.

He's one of the good examples of how focusing on polls, etc. gets rid of potentially good candidates. If you don't let them debate or give them news coverage, how are they going to get an audience to do well in the polls in the first place?

I could not agree more with you about this one!
Only the fact that he is interested in the Global Warming and disagrees with the Iraq War says everything about it!
The Iraq War was caused for oil and therefor greed.
The Global Warming was caused by pollution who was also caused by greed.
He seems to think about the good of people, and not about the money!
That's why he should win the elections!

Mike Gravel is also the only candidate I can support. ALL of his stances on the issues have merit and should be brought to the attention of the American People.
Cara, Gravel's Fair Tax plan includes a prebate for lower income families to cover the tax on necessities-- food, diapers, etc. The rich will always buy luxury items-- cars, yachts, big TV's and mansions. The poor, myself included, don't buy much more than necessities anyway. fairtax.org

Agreed. No legislator does have the right to decide whether or not a woman will face a serious medical condition for 9 months that will affect many aspects of her life and behavior and leave her with a human being to care for at the end. Trying to have that kind of control over someone's life would be pretty fucked up . . .

Okay . . . my comment just got deleted when I tried to put it through. But the "fair tax" is not fair or progressive. It greatly benefits the rich. The rich don't spend all of their income; the poor do. That means that under a "fair tax," the poor are taxed on a much higher percentage of their income than anyone else. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee also support this plan. Gravel may have other progressive ideas, but this isn't one of them.
