Man Suffering from PTSD Sentenced for Resisting War

Started by menstrualpoetry · 10 months ago

On July 17, James Burmeister was sentenced to 6 months in prison for going AWOL.
James Burmeister is an American soldier who served in September of 2006 as a gunner in Unit 118 First Infantry Division. At that time, Burmeister took part in “small kill teams” that used ... Continue reading »

  • I didn't know about the bait and switch tactic. Why would anyone ordered killing of a person who touches a camera with US property on it? I really don't get it. I'm trying to, but I can't. I read the whole article and I feel sorry for James - I hope his days in prison will soon be over.

But I still can't wrap my mind about those "tactics". What the hell is going on with those people there...
  • I think that is because they are not really true tactics. As an Iraqi vet I never saw or heard of any of this except from the media and senseless bloggers.

I have shaken hands with Iraqi citizens who appreciated us. They now have the freedom to totally disrespect their country just as this blogger does. The three units of each over 600 people in which I have served, I never heard anyone regret being there. Most were proud to give others the freedoms we enjoy. So don't confuse the soldier with the government.

It is odd they would send him back. I know guys who begged to go and had to wait for dental work to be done. Maybe he overstated his condition to the media. Has anyone seen paperwork suggesting his condition was known about?
  • Awesome post, that is the side of war nobody wants to discuss, but it's why I have been against it all along....thanks for shining the light!
  • Very sad news but it happens everyday. Too many people are going to suffer for the rest of their lives and the news never reports on that.
  • Nice Post! This shows that you have a great respect towards soldiers.Proper care has to be taken towards soldiers and their health. It is because they are the one who protects our nation.
  • I love this blog!!! A feminist response to everything, so clever!! What a great article, thanks!
  • As someone with friends and relatives in the service, this worries me. I worry about their lives and the lives they may have to take, unjustly, as part of their 'job'. How can any sane person let this go on, let alone encourage it? I support our troops (the ones who don't rape, anyway), but I don't support what their CO's are ordering them to do.
  • Every single DoD employee learns what we can and can't shoot. We even have annonymous avenues to persue if we are ordered otherwise. We ALL know the rules of engagement and that "just following orders" will never hold in court. Anyone intentionally killing a non combatant is a criminal.

So no worries for your fam and friends. If this guy really had all these issues, we have tons of people on this base to talk to. It sounds to me that he was homesick after seeing the fam and didn't want to go back. Also, I am pretty sure he is still eligible for med. Enerits just not thru the VA.

Is this an anti-American site or something? I was just trying to read up on the war and now I have a stress disorder. Are you going to care for me?
  • Wow! Here you go again. It should be illegal to say the irresponsible things you say. "I knew that American troops were being ordered to kill Iraqi civilians". How? How do you know this? A statement like this requires proof. This is clearly slander.

As a reader of your blog, I want to see proof of this and so should the others.

I am an American and refuse to have the legacy of our heroes be drug through the mud by someone who has never earned the freedoms these men and women give us.

Please, be more responsible with your "research."

Why don't you try to be a solution to a problem rather than whine about it. That would bring about true change, however, that would require effort. Use your freedoms and gifts of writing to help others. Any one can point out a problem but only a true leader is willing to act on it
